The sound that my new schedule makes. I now have to move at hyper-speed in order to get everything done before *the big show* in November.
Lookie, a
new color study:

Available in my Etsy shop.
It's one of two that I worked on along with a new Orange painting that I'm finishing up. I don't know that I'll be doing more (color studies) than that, because of my previously mentioned Whoosh Schedule. I have to streamline my whole process here. There's a lavender moon painting floating around my head that needs to come out and get on canvas soon.
Very soon.

I've been sort of busy since last week, and I guess I just tagged this on at the end of my blog about
Colin's birthday, so in case you missed it the first time:

Heh.
(Graphic Artists are so handy to have around. I highly recommend acquiring one of your own.)In honor of my One Year of selling on
Etsy, I am having a 25% off sale. That's 25% off every single painting that's listed, including the giganto ones. I'm listing more as I finish them. IF you feel inclined to take advantage of the discount on the large paintings (16x20 or over)
and you happen to be local, I would be completely fine with waving the shipping cost and hand delivering the painting myself. I'll consider "Orange County" as local, but if you're in LA or San Diego, we can discuss a compromise. :oD Feel free to email me (or "convo" me if you're an
Etsy person.)
Otherwise, I am totally going to sell everything at some of my upcoming shows this year. ;o)

lol...

Heh! I am so happy that
Colin was born! :oD He turned 27 yesterday. (awwwww.....) I thought he deserved a cake. Not chocolate, because the poor kid is allergic. So sad.
By the way, I really love cracking eggs. It's thrilling. So is black frosting.

Mmmm cake.
In other birthday news, today is my 1 year
Etsy anniversary! :oD Thanks for a great year of a semi-empty storefront and not having enough paintings to hang in the coffee house because I sold them already.
Etsy, you rock.
To celebrate,
everything (everything, everything, everything) is 25% off.
Everything. I'm holding the sale until June 1st, because June is a wonderful month. Its very inspiring to me. I love June.
I will be adding new paintings throughout the next few weeks, and I will list them all at 25% off what their full June price will be.
Go there. Celebrate with me. ;o)

One of the things I love most about
Etsy is the way independent artists support other independent artists. I know that I have already switched over to buying many things that I would normally buy elsewhere on
Etsy instead. I much prefer to buy products through self-employed artists/designers/crafters than through someplace like.... Walmart, for instance.
Anyway, I digress...
This nice Etsyian featured me on
her blog!! It's a great
little feature, I'm so flattered. :o)
Go here to read it.

We interrupt this blog to bring you an important sidenote from spaceweather.com: SOLAR MAX RESCHEDULED: Impatient with the
quiet sun, NASA researchers have rescheduled solar maximum. The peak was originally slated for 2012, but now it's going to happen this month. "We've launched millions of dollars worth of spacecraft to study solar activity, and what are we getting? Puny little A-flares and feeble
old sunspots," complained a high-ranking source at NASA headquarters. "We need some real explosions! Rescheduling Solar Max should solve the problem." News of the shift was announced on
April 1st.

I've actually got 9 (!) paintings going right now. I think it's a record. Well, actually, the two color studies above are nearly finished, so really it's 7.
They're both studies of larger paintings that are also nearly finished. Yay! I'll list them (with the full set of pictures) in
my Etsy shop tomorrow. I just added a little glass to them, for even more fun.
Of course, now that I've expanded my studio, I'm bursting out of it. I knew this would happen. The more space I have, the more paintings I start, and the more space is taken up.
Hurrah.

Both in
my Etsy shop, although the first one is no longer available. :o) (Thanks, Crystal!)
I've been experimenting with finely ground glass lately. It's interesting. Somehow, it's not sharp, but it does make interesting texture as well as making the painting super-uber sparkly (which is, unfortunately, absolutely impossible to capture in pictures.)
I did notice just today that there is something extra special about the way morning sunlight reflects off the glass. It's brighter and MUCH more sparkling than I'd even realized. I love the different colors of light. I should wake up earlier more often. (Yeah, right.)
I find it sort of funny that my mom used to make stained glass windows, and now I'm
adding glass to my paint. Madness.

I fully, totally, completely adore these, and I have been downright giddy about them since he first showed me the original drawings.
FAT NINJA
Make no mistake. He is a trained killer. (Oh, by the way, Colin draws fat ninjas. All kinds of them. Did you know that? Just FYI.)
Now, they have a purpose and are currently residing in his shop,
Interrupt.
That one is called
FAT NINJA: Standing.
There are
others. :o) They are
all adorable.
There's also
Valentines! Postcard art prints. :o) How cute is that?

Guess what. There are
prints. :o)

I am thrilled to introduce
Moonlight Serenade - Reprise, by
C. Jacob Maddox.
1. natural lighting
2. uv lighting
3. no light (glow in the dark!)
This is our collaboration. Colin wanted to take one of my paintings (his current favorite,
Moonlight Serenade) and remix it.
Each
print measures 12x18 inches, with a white border for framing.
It's printed on Kodak Supra Endura professional metallic photographic paper. The metallic paper is GORGEOUS, and actually makes
the design look holographic or something.
It's super neat.
It looks liquid-y. I was really impressed with the quality when
they arrived. :o)
I was also impressed with Colin's
remixed design. Where does he get
these ideas, anyway? Although, it wasn't really all that surprising. I've known he was this talented for
years. :o)
As you can see, I'm adding a touch of my own.
Each print will be detailed with my
high-quality glow paint, so that
it glows for hours after you turn the lights off.
The edition of
prints will be limited to 50 and
each will be numbered and signed by both of us on the back. When
they sell out, that's it.
Stop by
Colin's Etsy Shop to see!
:oD (hehe)

Yay! I was honored to be asked. I always find these interviews beneficial because it forces me to write about what I do, and improve my answers to questions that I often find I don't
have answers for. It's very important to be able to communicate about your own art, and I have traditionally been rendered silent when asked. I learn more about why I do what I do myself!
Actually, this is called an "
Indieview." Cause it's on
The Indie Path. :o)
My InterviewAlso, there's a preview of the collaboration that
Colin and I have been working on together. ;o) We want to release it this month! (
Colin is not only
so handsome, but also artistically gifted! :::swoons:::)

(2 and a half years later)You see, we got married there. Naturally, we have quite a spiritual connection with it.
Apparently, I am one of those people that likes humidity. I know this because I feel
much healthier when its humid out. I realize some of you desert-crazies will disagree with me and want to go on about the nice, dry heat. But, I've lived in the desert. You're crazy.
I can
breathe in Hawaii. Oxygen is an amazing thing. I plan to return with my creativity barometer on FULL. How could I not?
Mark Twain...Letters from Hawaii, 1886
"The Refuge for the Weary"
"We landed at Kailua (Kona), a little collection of native grass houses reposing under coconut trees - the sleepiest, quietest, Sundayest looking place you can imagine. Ye weary ones that are sick of the labor and care, and the bewildered turmoil of the great world, and sigh for a land where ye may fold your tired hands and slumber your lives peacefully away, pack up your carpet sacks and go to Kailua! A week there ought to cure the saddest of you all."
I
might post a couple of pictures along the way, although I
guarantee I will be having too much fun to do so.
See you on the flip-side.
(In the meantime, if you'd like to contribute and get a great deal on art, I am currently having a Hawaii Sale in my Etsy shop.)Labels: etsy, hawaii, kailua-kona, kona, mark twain

I love being on the
front page! I love it even more when I actually catch it, which doesn't always happen.

So cool!
The painting shown, Orbit, is actually heading to a gallery on the East Coast this week! So exciting!
COMING SOON to
my Etsy shop: 5"x5" Color Studies! I'll explain later. :oD

... is back. Stuff up. I have at least 2 pieces to put up that are new. 2 or 3. I have plans for more. Some (I'm not sure how many yet) are destined for a gallery on the East Coast in a few weeks.
www.shaylamaddox.etsy.comEtsy is a lot of fun. It truly inspires support for independent artists.
I like it because it gives me somewhere to exhibit my smaller paintings. The smattering of ideas visible in these smaller pieces really displays my creative process, ever-changing with my mood. They give me an outlet to be freely creative while I hone in on the idea.

Yesterday morning, I was selected for the Etsy homepage! I woke up to over 1000 views on
that painting. It's a beautiful collection of art, I feel honored to be chosen. I also received many emails from people regarding
my work, who discovered me from the front page. It was a fun morning, for sure!
Image is courtesy of
Mandy Budan, who originally turned me on to Etsy in the first place. Isn't her work beautiful?
